Highclere Castle, the home of the 8th Earl and Countess of Carnarvon, is set in a gloriously beautiful park, designed by Capability Brown, where the Horse Trials take place.

Some years ago Janet Benney resurrected the former Highclere horse trials which hadn't run for a while and from those early, small beginnings the present, very popular, much larger event has evolved. Supported by an enthusiastic and friendly team, Janet was one of the first organisers to lay on extra attractions which led to the Festival of the Horse and last year she orchestrated the inaugural running of The Stately Homes Challenge. This took place at Longleat, and Wilton with the Final at Highclere Castle. This proved to be such a good idea that, this year, Somerley Park was also included as a qualifier and the line up of riders eligible to enter the Highclere Castle final is a long and lustrous one.

Horse Trials are unique in giving you three times the sport.Three disciplines, three sports - dressage, show jumping and cross country - all rolled into one event giving a display of grace, power and courage where horse and rider face the supreme tests of skill, precision and endurance.

"Sport for the sporting... shopping for the strong... fun for the family"

What people have to say about our events

We have been involved in Horse Trials for the past five years and we find it works particularly well for us in targeting the local. countryside market. It provides a wonderful opportunity to entertain guests in a relaxed atmosphere - they can bring their dogs, walk the course and it's a great family day out

Simon Cornford, Wood Pilcher Estate agents

I go to a lot of Horse Trials for my work and Highclere always impresses me as one of only a handful which really make an effort to attract the public through the door For the sport to grow it's so important to offer something for all the family and that' s where this event scores so highly

Jane Perry, Freelance Horse Trials correspondent

We have supported Highclere since it started, sponsoring a fence and entertaining guests. Last year's event was better than ever before. It' s such a beautiful setting and the additional attractions like the carriages and dressage-to-music, made the day - into a true Festival of the Horse and were very successful. It is a popular, well-organized event which we intend to continue supporting in future years.
